With its delicate spindle work, steeply pitched roof & asymmetrical facade, the Boothe-Santa Ana house is a quintessential Folk Victorian-style home. Joseph Robertson, the second physician in Travis County (for whom the nearby Robertson Hill neighborhood was named) first owned the lot where the home was constructed. He subsequently sold it to Charles and Cordelia Boothe, who hired JJ Brydson, a prominent 19th century contractor, to build the home for their family in 1895. The seller has a chain of ownership and original hand written Abstract Title from the 1800s that will convey with the home.
1011 E. 8th is located in the Robertson/Stuart & Mair Historic District—a Local Historic District that includes the Historic French Legation.
This impressive and well-preserved home is in the Queen Anne style but also noted in the historic district overview as being in the “Folk-Victorian Style with a modified “L” plan”—the house features a steep hipped roof with lower cross gables, one front facing and one side facing. The gables are ornamented and clad with circular wood shingles. So much of this home is still intact because it has had so few owners throughout its life. It retains its original front door and many other features. Where there were inappropriate modifications, the current owner worked with historical photographs to restore these portions of the home to the original glory—including the large, beautiful front porch.
Other features: Gorgeous bath and sun room added in 2019. .28 acre SF3 lot with room for garage apt and pool (Check with CoA for info on building in a historic district--must be "appropriate") Long leaf pine, mature and mostly native gardens, walk to Whole Foods, Downtown, E. 6th, Shops/Dining/Yoga on E. 11th St. State Cemetery, French Legation.
