The oversized kitchen island was built to flow with the home’s layout, elegantly connecting the living and dining rooms. The kitchen counter and backsplash are made of Dekton, which is both easy to clean and highly resistant to stains, scratches, and abrasions; the transparent staining on the wood complements these surfaces. With a range, refrigerator, and dishwasher from the Bertazzoni professional series, a microwave drawer by Bosch, and floor-to-ceiling cabinets providing ample storage space, the kitchen is built to perform at the highest level. An elegant powder room with pocket door makes the floor ideal for hosting guests without having to access the bedroom areas.

Through the living room at the rear of the house, oversized windows gaze over the patio and garden and allow sumptuous northwestern light into the first floor, accentuating the loft-like feel of the space. The garden itself - the first of four outdoor spaces in the house - is almost 40’ deep, and has a multi-functional finished shed.

The stairs to the second floor have a slatted rail design that creates continuity between the floors and creates distinct light patterns as the dual exposures pour light in throughout the day. The second floor has two bedrooms with a shared en suite bathroom, a home office, and two terraces, one on each end of the house off of each bedroom. While built as two bedrooms, the floor smoothly flows from one end to the other, and the rooms can easily be converted to other purposes, like a playroom, TV room, or a home gym. In reimagining 147 Bayard, the designer appointed the home with top-quality materials and systems to fully modernize the space for comfort and efficiency. Black Absolute granite is used for the front entryway and rear patio. Frost-free hose bibs are also at both the front and the rear and a Honeywell system has been installed to purify fresh air intake. All lighting in the house is LED and dimmable, and heating and cooling are high-efficiency split Mitsubishi systems, both gas and electric. All the perimeter walls are insulated with spray foam, and the floor and ceilings are insulated with batt insulation.
