Description:
This double-height floor-through 5,646 square foot duplex penthouse was painstakingly constructed over a six-year period and entirely custom built down to the finest detail. Designed by Soren Rose Studio and constructed by a team of craftsmen from Denmark that were brought to New York with the sole purpose of building the penthouse to exact specification.
The Penthouse, which encompasses the entire top floor and roof at 240 Park Avenue South, features a custom blue Bisazza tiled pool with infinity glass wall facing north with views of the Empire State, and Chrysler buildings and more, and a glass pavilion. As the Magnum Opus of Soren Rose Studio, the design was inspired by traditional Scandinavian techniques fused with New York industrial contemporary influences utilizing materials of glass, wood, stone, leather and steel. Each element was produced solely for the Penthouse. A monumental 24-foot dark Verde Alpi marble wall cuts through the first floor and mezzanine levels reaching to the rooftop pavilion and continues to the outdoors as a striking centerpiece throughout the residence. The large marble slab was sourced from the same quarry that Mies Van der Rohe sourced his marble for the Barcelona Pavilion.
Accessed via keyed elevator and private landing foyer, the Gallery opens onto the 18th Floor overlooking Gramercy Park. The great room has ceiling heights reaching twenty-four feet, boasting six oversized windows, a gas fireplace and eighteen-inch-wide Dinesen Classic Oak hardwood floors with natural white oil finish. A custom porthole accent window offers underwater views of the 30-foot swimming pool above.
The professional chef’s kitchen designed by Arclinea has a custom seventeen-foot island of Pine and Gra Bla stone. An oversized picture window which provides awe inspiring views, was fenestrated on the building's north exterior wall in order to hoist the kitchen into place. The kitchen has a full suite of Gaggenau appliances including a refrigerator and freezer, steam oven, induction oven, range with hood, dishwasher, wine cooler, and coffee and espresso machine.
The large master suite features thirteen and a half foot ceilings, five windows of matching height facing south and east and a large dressing area with built in oak closets, including interior leather finishes in each drawer. The five-fixture master bath features a single stone white Statuario soaking tub, Bisazza tiled shower stall and double vanity, Vola fixtures and polished travertine floors.
The cantilevered oak and glass staircase leads to a private rooftop pavilion which includes a butler’s pantry, a nautical refrigerator and tasting area. The terrace has Roman travertine pavers, a white Statuario marble kitchen and fireplace.
