When the first cases of the mysterious coronavirus were recorded in New York City five years ago, it was impossible to predict all the ways the pandemic would reshape city life.


Streets, subways and office buildings emptied. Commuters started working from home. Legions of delivery workers dropped groceries and takeout at the front door. All this happened within weeks of New York state's first reported infection of a woman in Manhattan on March 1, 2020.

What to Know About Measles Cases in 

New York and New Jersey

Experts are emphasizing the importance of vaccination against measles after two people in New York and three in New Jersey were diagnosed with the viral illness since the start of the year

.


It’s not unusual for sporadic cases of measles to be reported. Last year, 14 people in New York City were diagnosed with the illness, with an additional case elsewhere in New York State.

Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

A new rendering has been released for 609-615 West 46th Street, a forthcoming 14-story Secure Space self storage facility in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed Mancini Duffy and developed by Insite Real Estate, the 135-foot-tall project will yield 109,658 square feet. 


The property comprises two interior parcels spanning 9,775 square feet between Eleventh Avenue to the east and the Hudson River Greenway to the west.

Foundations Underway at 1448 Third Avenue 

on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Foundations are underway at 1448 Third Avenue, the site of a 39-story mixed-use tower in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and developed by Douglaston Development, the 478-foot-tall structure will span 287,632 square feet and yield 125 condominium units with an average scope of 1,804 square feet. 


The building will also contain 40,864 square feet of commercial space, 21,224 square feet of community facility space, a cellar level, and a 20-foot-long rear yard.

THE 74’s Cladding Continues Installation

at 201 East 74th Street 

on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Façade installation is continuing on THE 74, a 32-story residential tower at 201 East 74th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Elad Group, which purchased the property for $61 million in April 2022, the 420-foot-tall structure will yield 41 condominium units and a collection of amenities.


Apartments will include half-floor two- and three-bedroom units, full-floor four- and five-bedroom homes, a single free-standing townhome, and a duplex penthouse.

Two-Tower Development Rises Higher

at 80 Clarkson Street 

in West Village, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 80 Clarkson Street, a two-tower residential complex along the Hudson River waterfront in Manhattan’s West Village. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and SLCE Architects and developed by Zeckendorf Development, Atlas Capital Group, and the Baupost Group, the project consists of 37- and 45-story structures standing 400 and 450 feet tall, respectively. 


The $1.25 billion development will span approximately 650,000 square feet and yield 100 condominium units, nearly 37,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and enclosed parking for 69 vehicles.
