Tips to Get Your Home Ready For The Market |
It's never too early to get your home ready for the market. I always advise my clients to prepare in advance, so they can jump on market opportunities as they arise. Waiting until the last minute might mean missing out on potential gains. Here are a few ideas to boost your home's value before selling:
Maximizing your home's value is crucial for a successful sale. A well-maintained home not only attracts more buyers but can also lead to higher offers, potentially sparking bidding wars. |
1. Enhance Curb Appeal: First Impressions count! |
- Landscaping: Trim the lawn, plant vibrant flowers, and add fresh mulch to create an inviting exterior. - Exterior Care: Paint or power wash the house, driveway, and walkways for a refreshed look. - Front Door Update: Consider a new door or updated hardware like handles and house numbers to modernize your entryway. |
2. Declutter and Depersonalize - Make your home feel open and welcoming! |
- Clear Cutter: Remove unnecessary items from rooms, closets, and storage spaces to create a spacious, organized environment. - Depersonalize: Take down family photos and personal collections, allowing buyers to envision their own belongings in the space. |
3. Make Small Upgrades - Small changes can have a big impact. |
- Neutral Paint: Refresh walls with neutral tones like soft grays or beiges to appeal to a wider audience. - Minor Repairs: Fix leaky faucets and minor plumbing issues to show your home is well-maintained. - Update Fixtures: Swap outdated light fixtures and cabinet hardware for modern styles. |
4. Know When to Renovate - Invest wisely in key areas. |
- Kitchen and Bathroom Updates: Modernize with updated cabinets, countertops, and appliances. Consider adding new backsplashes or lighting fixtures for extra appeal. - Energy-Efficient Appliances: If budget allows, these are a big draw for buyers looking to reduce future costs. |

- Regular maintenance prevents bigger issues. - Keep an eye on market trends to meet buyer demands. |

Pending home sales rose 6% week-over-week and are 9% higher than the same week in 2024, continuing a 9-week streak of year-over-year growth. Active inventory is up 27% compared to last year, but the pace of growth has slowed, indicating a more stable—though still elevated—supply environment. New listing volume is nearly flat year-over-year, suggesting that fears of a flood of new supply driving prices down have not materialized. Home prices remain just slightly above 2024 levels, but with high inventory and softening demand, price momentum is clearly trending downward. Nearly 42% of homes on the market have had a price cut—the highest July rate in over a decade—underscoring how sensitive pricing is to elevated mortgage rates.
