Happy 250 years, America! What a milestone, huh?? As with every 4th of July, there are many ways to celebrate in our beautiful community. I'll share what's going on in Napa & Sonoma County below, but first I'll share some fun facts about the signing of the Declaration of Independence:
🇺🇸 The Declaration of Independence was not actually signed on July 4, 1776. The Second Continental Congress voted for independence on July 2, and adopted the document on July 4, but the official signing didn't take place until August 2—and some delegates didn't sign until November.
🇺🇸 Some of the most recognizable Founding Fathers never actually signed the Declaration. George Washington and James Madison were off serving in the military, Alexander Hamilton was too young at 21, and Patrick Henry chose not to sign.
🇺🇸 Both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the exact same day: July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the Declaration.
🇺🇸 The Founding Fathers never called themselves by that title. The term wasn't coined until 1920 when President Warren G. Harding used it in a speech.
How will you celebrate the 4th of July this year? We went all out with decorations and I even have "4th of July cornflowers" to use as bouquets in our egg stand this weekend. Whether you're in Sonoma or Napa, you have options!
🧨 Napa Valley 4th of July events (St. Helena's celebration is on the 3rd of July and they're also celebrating their town's 150 years!)
🧨 Sonoma County 4th of July events - fireworks can be found in Sonoma, Petaluma, Cloverdale and Healdsburg. Here's a list of other fun happenings in the county.
Wishing you a fun and festive 4th of July. What a beautiful and special place we are so fortunate to call home!
