| Why Commission Changes Can Hurt Buyers, Sellers, and Communities |
| I recently read a New York Times article about changes in real estate commissions that fundamentally misrepresents our industry's realities. As someone who invests in clients like family, providing guidance and support beyond just showing homes and writing offers, I assure you the situation is far more serious than portrayed. The changes coming on August 17th represent a drastic upheaval that threatens to make homeownership less accessible and equitable. We're not resisting change out of self-interest; we're fighting against a misguided policy that will hurt both buyers and sellers. In the last few weeks, I helped two buyers secure homes they love. If the sellers had been unwilling to pay the buyer's agent compensation, these purchases wouldn't have been possible. This isn't an isolated incident - it's a troubling trend that will shrink your pool of potential buyers and impact your bottom line. Agents, like any professionals, deserve fair compensation for their expertise and time. "In the last few weeks, I helped two buyers secure homes they love. If the sellers had been unwilling to pay the buyer's agent compensation, these purchases wouldn't have been possible. This isn't an isolated incident - it's a troubling trend that will shrink your pool of potential buyers and impact your bottom line. Can you imagine a buyer navigating this complex process without representation? Most people who have bought or sold a home understand the demands and wouldn't want to go through it without a realtor's guidance. Under the new rules, many may attempt this, and I shudder to think of the potential outcomes. Misunderstandings, legal issues, and lost opportunities could become commonplace. Agents, like any professionals, deserve fair compensation for their expertise and time, which is crucial in protecting both buyers' and sellers' interests. It's crucial to understand that buyers themselves are asking not to see homes where they'd have to cover the agent's compensation, as it pushes the total cost beyond their means. This misconception in the article highlights how out of touch the reporting is with ground realities. The article underestimates the value of a good buyer's agent. We navigate complex legalities and often serve as the linchpin in deals. The suggestion that our compensation should be uncertain is untenable. Moreover, the University of Southern California (USC) research cited is deeply flawed. It fails to account for crucial factors that impact listing times more than commission rates. Properties offering lower compensation often suffer from poor presentation, lack of updates, and less responsive management. The study's oversight of these elements reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of our industry's complexities. These changes aren't creating fairness - they're creating chaos. They're likely to lead to lower sale prices, fewer first-time homebuyers, increased investor domination, and a less equitable housing landscape. It's ironic that in attempting to address perceived unfairness, these changes may exacerbate existing inequalities. This isn't just about commissions; it's about preserving the dream of homeownership for future generations and ensuring the real estate market remains accessible to everyone, not just those with the deepest pockets. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further. Despite these challenges, I'm committed to navigating this new landscape to ensure the best outcome for your real estate goals. Your trust means everything to me, and I promise to continue fighting for your interests every step of the way. |

| | | As many of you know, I paused traveling after buying my home in Ridgemont, but I’m excited to share that I’m back on the move! This year, I took two incredible trips—one to Jamaica and another to Mexico City—each filled with unforgettable moments. Both destinations offered vibrant cultures, warm communities, and opportunities for deep connection. From the kindness of locals who welcomed us like family to the inspiring people I traveled with, I was reminded of how powerful it is to surround yourself with those who uplift and inspire you. Both trips also highlighted the importance of finding peace in nature, whether it was experiencing a breathtaking midnight thunderstorm on a Jamaican beach or discovering a tranquil park dedicated to mindfulness in Mexico City. Lastly, immersing myself in these rich, diverse communities reinforced the value of kindness and how essential it is to prioritize well-being, both individually and collectively. I’m already looking forward to where my next adventure will take me! |
