There is something about glowing lights and warm summer nights that stirs the soul. If you want to experience something magical, The Water Lantern Festival at Carpenter Lake Park in Thornton, starts today and runs through tomorrow, it offers festival goers food, music, and fun with the culmination being a release of the lanterns onto the lake at sunset. And Bright Nights at Four Mile Historic Park, starts July 23 and runs through October, covers the park in over 40 oversized lantern sculptures with different themes, creating an immersive glowing art experience. While it is fun for the whole family, they also have adult only nights, with cocktails and a relaxed illuminated atmosphere.

If cool rocks and wild adventures are your thing I know a place you need to go. Just outside of Creede Colorado, deep in the San Juan Mountains, is the Wheeler Geologic Area. Structures commonly called hoodoos, formed from erosion of volcanic stone, stand eerily dominating the landscape like Dante’s lost souls. Found in the La Garita wilderness area, Wheeler was formerly a national monument until it was rescinded by President Truman in 1950 for being under visited and too hard for even rangers to get to. Arriving here requires either a horse, really good hiking legs, or a 4 wheel drive vehicle capable of taking on 14 miles of rough road, if you make it the reward is breathtaking!

Summer is in full swing and temps aren’t coming down anytime soon, so now is as good a time as any to familiarize yourself with some of Denver’s best frozen cocktails. One of the highlights is Swanky’s Vittles and Libations in LoDo, their signature “Adult Slushies”, with unique mixes for a creative take on cocktails that are sure to cool you down. If you’re into something a little more classic, My Neighbor Felix in LoHi has top notch frozen margaritas, including their strawberry-banana flavor if you’re looking for something a little extra fruity to chill out with.
