| | | Men have spent decades pretending that carrying everything in four overstuffed pockets is somehow more masculine than carrying a bag. Fashion has finally called the bluff. The proper men’s handbag has escaped the runway and entered real life, helped along by everyone from Jacob Elordi to A$AP Rocky. Not a backpack. Not a briefcase. Not something described as “tactical.” An actual bag. The appeal is pretty obvious once you stop resisting it. Keys, glasses, wallet, charger, maybe even a book, all in one place and without turning your pants into storage furniture. Your pockets will be relieved.

| | Seattle is home to the largest Goodwill store in the world. Seventy thousand square feet of clothes, furniture, records, lamps, kitchenware and objects whose original purpose may never be fully understood. About 10,000 new items hit the floor every day, and roughly 18,000 people wander through each week looking for something they absolutely did not know they needed. That makes the Dearborn Street Goodwill less of a thrift store and more of an archaeological dig with shopping carts. The trick, apparently, is accepting that you are not shopping for anything in particular. You are simply waiting for the building to reveal itself to you.

| | Seattle has discovered another perfectly good food worth standing in an unreasonable line for. Rolled Flour is selling milk-bread cinnamon rolls from a pop-up window in the International District, and people are lining up down the block for them. Current flavors include Biscoff cookie butter, maple chai and an apple-cider sticky bun, which means the humble cinnamon roll has now fully entered its luxury era. Someone in line reportedly played the Saturday Night Live “Big Dumb Line” sketch. And stayed in line. Which may be the most Seattle detail in the entire story.

| | | | That enormous spider sprinting across your living room isn't trying to kill you. He's trying to get a date. September is giant house spider mating season around Seattle, when males leave their hiding places and start roaming indoors looking for females. Some can span nearly four inches, which feels unnecessarily ambitious for an animal that is technically harmless. The good news: they are not interested in you. The less useful news: this fact may not be particularly comforting when one appears at 11:47 p.m. beside the sofa. They're harmless. Which is excellent information to remember while standing on a chair screaming..

| | | | There are libraries. And then there are libraries that make you want to book a flight. Converted monasteries. Baroque halls. Modernist temples. Reading rooms surrounded by redwoods. The best ones are not just places to keep books. They are arguments that reading deserves architecture, ceremony and perhaps a ceiling painted by someone who was clearly being paid by the square foot. Condé Nast Traveler rounded up some of the world's most beautiful places to do something increasingly radical: Sit quietly and read.
