It’s the start of an exciting new year, and now is often the time we start re-evaluating our business and planning for the year ahead. In the world of marketing, that means the word branding gets thrown around. A lot. So, what even is branding? Depending on where you look, you’ll probably get a lot of different, complex answers. Branding is actually quite a simple concept, and our hope is to break that down for you today. To start, let’s stop using the word branding and start focusing on our business values and vision. A strong brand is derived from concrete values and a clear vision. It’s really important to get clear on your values and vision, because they are the foundation of your business. This foundation inevitably turns into your brand. By brand, we mean perception. Because a brand is the way a business is perceived. And, whether we like it or not, perception is reality for our consumers. The lifeline of your business is your values and vision, and that dictates your perception in the eyes of your audience. Own the narrative of your brand, otherwise you are leaving it up to others to write that narrative for you. |

Have you defined your business values? Because they will likely turn into your competitive advantage as an agent. Your values can be written in the form of value statements and should be the core of what you make business-critical decisions off of. Here are a few questions to help you get clear on your brand values: |
| | | | | What is my leadership style? |
| | what am i not willing to sacrifice? |
| |
Before you can even dream of your visual brand identity or what your messaging will be, you need to get clear on your values. |

How critically have you thought about your business’ vision? Of course everyone wants to make money and “be successful” (whatever that means), but let’s dig a little deeper. Because, “I want a money-making empire,” likely won’t win at a listing appointment. Similar to your values, your vision can exist in the form of a simple statement. To get there, ask yourself this one question: |
| What does the world look like |
Take the time to discover and write a vision statement for your business. |
