🕰️ San Francisco in May: The Opening of the Golden Gate Bridge 🌉

May 27, 1937 marked a monumental day in San Francisco’s history—the official opening of the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

After four years of construction, the bridge opened to pedestrians first, drawing more than 200,000 people who walked, roller-skated, and even tap-danced their way across the span. The following day, May 28, it opened to vehicles, forever changing transportation and commerce between San Francisco and Marin County.

At the time of its completion, it was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world, a marvel of engineering and a symbol of resilience, especially since it was built during the Great Depression.

Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is not just a vital transport link, but a cultural and historical treasure, recognized worldwide as a symbol of San Francisco.
