| Giving Thanks and Giving Back |
| As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, Janie and I often find ourselves discussing how lucky we are to have such wonderful friends, clients, colleagues, and family. After acknowledging how blessed we are, our discussion often turns to brainstorming different ways we can "give back." Hopefully this bit of sharing on our part will inspire you to get into the Thanksgiving Holiday spirit, too! So, without further ado, here is a short list of things we are thankful for:
The opportunity to work with such a fun, interesting and dynamic group of people year after year. That our oldest, Jack, has graduated from Berkeley Law and is now working full time helping people who wouldn't otherwise have the means for legal counsel (and he is finally off our payroll!) That our youngest, Chase, is thriving at Pitzer College and working hard as a member of the Pomona-Pitzer Water Polo Team (go Sagehens!) That our home addition is literally a week or two away from completion. Anyone need some dust? We have plenty to go around!
As for giving back, one timely and fulfilling tradition we have is to support Build-A-Box on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Build-A-Box is a charity that helps to ensure that local families are able to celebrate Thanksgiving with a traditional feast. If you are free from 7:30am to noon on Monday, November 25 for meal box building/delivery and/or you'd like to make a donation, more information can be found here or just give us a call.
Lastly, to quote Janie, "Empty nesting is a thing!" With a much quieter house (construction noise excepted) and greatly reduced kid activities, I spent a long time pondering ways I could give back on an ongoing basis, one that I would enjoy, and one that would help keep me active. I finally settled on refereeing water polo. Nationally and locally, there is a dire need for referees in all sports, so if you can spare a little time and want to get a deeper understanding of a sport, contemplate reffing. Yes, it is challenging, but it is one of many ways of supporting the next generation and helping provide those opportunities we had growing up.
Happy Thanksgiving! |
