In 2019, my therapist said something that stuck with me: “Just sit with that.” The next month, I took a six-week meditation course where the first piece of homework was: “Go out to eat and just notice your food. No phone. No book. No conversation. Just notice all of it.”
These two experiences planted a seed, and over time, they grew into what I now call The Big Sit. It’s about sitting with ideas, with moments, with myself—just observing. Watching people, being still, letting things unfold. Taking in movement, sounds, architecture, and the little things you notice when you actually stop and look.
I’ve found myself yearning for these Big Sits—those slow, intentional moments where you can just savor and be. Now, I seek out specific kinds of sits, each with its own flavor, its own vibe. It’s become a way to reconnect, to notice, and to truly be present.
Introducing The Morning Sit – a new coffee get-together.
We’re kicking off on Friday, December 20th at 8:30 AM at As You Are in The Ace Hotel Lobby in Brooklyn, and we’d love for you to come through.
