As Thanksgiving approaches, I am reminded of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place — from our redwood trails to the a beautiful coastline, there’s so much to be grateful for here in Santa Cruz County. This season, I’ve been spending some time volunteering with local organizations like Wings Homeless Advocacy and Second Harvest Food Bank. Giving back to our community is one of the many ways I like to show appreciation for the place we all call home. And you can too!
Whether you’re gathering with loved ones, enjoying a beach walk, or lending a helping hand this Thanksgiving, I hope your holiday is filled with warmth, gratitude, and connection. For this November Newsletter, I am thankful for your business and continued trust. Gobble gobble - Michele |

Become a Volunteer in Santa Cruz County
|
| While I could share a list of Thanksgiving events this month, I thought I’d do something a little different - and highlight ways to give back instead. I personally volunteer with Wings Homeless Advocacy, a local group supporting those in need through outreach and fundraising. This year, I also spent time with Second Harvest Food Bank in Watsonville, helping out with a diaper drive - a small two-hour commitment that made a big impact.
If you’re not sure where to start, the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County is a wonderful resource. They even offer a “Volunteer Matchmaker” service where you can chat about your interests and get connected with organizations that fit your passions and schedule. I really appreciate how respectfully the Volunteer Center treats its volunteers. During COVID, they even reached out when events were overbooked! A thoughtful touch that showed real consideration.

Make A Difference At Your Local SPCA
|
| Giving your time to our local shelter animals is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to our community. At the Santa Cruz SPCA, volunteers walk dogs, socialize cats, help with community events, and even open their homes to foster animals in need. Every moment spent makes a difference - helping pets build trust, gain confidence, and prepare for their forever homes. Volunteers must be 16 or older, though there are wonderful youth programs for younger animal lovers too. If you’ve ever wanted to lend a paw, now’s the perfect time to get involved! If You Can't Volunteer, Please Donate
|
| If you don’t have time to volunteer, donations are always appreciated and truly make an impact. I personally support a few local organizations that do incredible work right here in our community:
Second Harvest Food Bank - providing healthy meals and essential supplies to local families in need.
Santa Cruz SPCA - caring for and rehoming animals while promoting compassion and responsible pet ownership.
Santa Cruz Women’s Health Center - offering quality healthcare and support services to women and families across the county.
Even a small donation helps these organizations continue their important work, especially during the holiday season when the need is greatest.
Click on the button below to donate. Even a little bit helps! |
