Manhattan Home Sales Soar as Buyers Seize

on Mortgage Rate Dips

Manhattan home sales had a strong start to the year as a bigger share of buyers chose to bite the bullet and accept elevated mortgage rates.


The number of transactions completed in the first quarter jumped 29% from a year earlier to 2,560, according to appraiser Miller Samuel Inc. and brokerage Douglas Elliman. The median price of those deals rose 11% to $1.165 million.

New York City Council Votes to Reform Scaffolding and Sidewalk Shed Rules to Reduce Their Presence, Improving Public Safety and NYC’s Streetscapes

City Hall, NY – The New York City Council passed legislation to strengthen the safety and efficiency of sidewalk shed management, including bills to shorten the duration of sidewalk shed permits and improve their designs.


There are currently over 8,400 scaffolding structures across New York City, and the extremely lengthy duration of their presence negatively impacts public safety and streetscapes.

The charging stations will be outside of buildings, in cabinets on the sidewalk. Property owners and tenants with a landlord approval can apply for them.

Foundations Underway at 1448 Third Avenue 

on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Façade installation has begun on 665 Fifth Avenue, the 28-story US headquarters for Rolex in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects and developed by the Rolex Realty Company, the 469-foot-tall structure will yield 199,000 square feet of office and retail space for the world-famous watchmaker.


Adamson Associates is the architect of record and Pavarini McGovern is the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 53rd Street.

A first look at the revitalized Frick Collection reopening this spring

Like was the case in many Gilded Age mansions, the staircase at The Frick Collection was a barrier to the more private, intimate spaces upstairs. The second floor, where the Frick family’s bedrooms and quiet spaces existed, has been strictly off limits to the public, still strangely upholding that old upstairs/downstairs dynamic that so many of us are familiar with thanks to shows like Downton Abbey.
