Sue's News and Views November 2025

Dear All,

What is the REAL New York? The buildings made from steel, glass windows glistening in the sun, the fashion extroverts not afraid to express their colorful fantasies, the rundown old houses barely keeping themselves upright, the blinking lights and orchestra overtures of Broadway theatres, the elegance and wonder of the art temples, the dark, hot subway and its underworld, the wasteland somewhere between two vacant deserted factories, full of possibilities.

I've always been drawn to the wasteland and the decay, the place where opportunity lives, where Phoenix can rise from the ashes. To the hidden squalor or beauty, right next to each other...

Life is like that. When you win, you're on top of the world, when you've lost you feel alone. No one wins all the time, no one loses all the time. There is no failure - you succeed, or you learn. The "winners" and the "losers" - New York embraces all. It is the city of resilience, of expression, full of joie de vivre!

I'm grateful, New York, for the splendor, the twilight, your edgy and innovative spirit, the smells of winds and blossoms, the excruciating noise and the energy of excitement, the glimmer of hope in a smile of a stranger, the laugh of a child. For the music and the kindness and so many generous spirits I've encountered here.

Thank you to the city I've called my home for 18 years.

My love for New York will never wane...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Warmly,

sue
