EVERYONE DESERVES A HOME

Public Housing

We were heartened to come across an article in the Boston Globe about new public housing, especially since Cambridge houses approximately a quarter of the units available in Massachusetts!

"Through a new but little-known federal program, some municipalities in Massachusetts are building the first new public housing units [in decades], a moment many in the housing world thought might never come.

Their numbers are small, and the financing is very complicated. But with the right combination of funding sources, some cities and towns are already on track to build hundreds of new units, and thousands more could follow. Housing leaders say the move couldn’t be more timely, amid a deepening housing crisis in which low-income homes are in particularly short supply."

THEY'RE BAAAAACK!

Farmer's Markets

Farmers markets have exploded in popularity in recent years, and nearly every city and town in the Cambridge area hosts at least one farmers market a week during the growing season. Buying locally is easier on the environment, connects residents with the land, and brings communities together. Plus, each market has its own character, so it’s fun to branch out and visit markets outside your immediate neighborhood. We at Liz & Ellie Local are all about connecting people with their neighbors, so we’ve compiled a list of farmers markets in Cambridge, Somerville, and beyond. Attend your local market for the first time, the hundredth time, or travel to one you’ve never been to before. Maybe we’ll see you there!

Upcoming Events

June is Pride Month...and there's plenty to be proud of!

There are dozens of events celebrating Pride throughout the Greater Boston area this month. Check out this list—our favorite is the Big Gay Dance Party taking place this Sunday in Union Square, Somerville. If there's an event we've missed, please share!
Juneteenth Celebrations this weekend

June 19, 1865, is the day enslaved people were officially freed after troops marched to Galveston, Texas to enforce the emancipation proclamation—a day well worth celebrating. Juneteenth was made an official holiday in Massachusetts in 2020. Here are a few ways to observe.
