Sugar Hill, a National Historic District in the Harlem and Hamilton Heights area of Manhattan, got its name in the 1920s when the neighborhood became a popular place for wealthy African Americans to live during the Harlem Renaissance. Reflective of the "sweet life" there, Sugar Hill featured rowhouses in which lived such prominent African Americans as W.E.B.Du Bois, Thurgood Marshall, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Walter Francis White, Roy Wilkins and Afro-Puerto Rican Arturo Schomburg. Some of those spectacular townhouses are for sale! Last month already, I featured a photo of Sugar Hill in my newsletter. If you don't know this neighborhood - take a stroll some time and you'll find yourself delighted by the historic architecture, it's allure and charm. And the stories it tells... If you are enamored with townhouses - like me - you might enjoy reading the Manhattan townhome report of Q 2, 2023, below. As always, I have curated a collection of recommended reads, thought-provoking articles, noteworthy resources and exciting events in the city to expand your knowledge and stimulate your curiosity. |

| 5 Summer Approved, "Coastal Grandma' Decor |
| Think back to this time last year when the “coastal grandma” trend was influencing both how people dress and how they decorate their homes. In the fashion world, this look falls somewhere between beachy and bougie, with pieces like a chunky-knit sweater layered over flowing white linen pants. (Think: Diane Keaton on the beach in the movie “Something’s Gotta Give.”) |
