Sue's News and Views, November 2024

Dear All,

Language is important.

The most informative for any connection is the spoken word. When you speak to someone in person, you see their face, body language and hear the tone in which they say something. You can hear compassion and contemplation, anxiousness or impatience. If you pay attention you can hear the subtext underneath their words, too. Listening is the key to understanding.

Text messages gives the illusion of a conversation. In reality, they're a source of neverending misunderstandings. If you take the time to think, then speak or write, and choose your words carefully, this can make or break a moment. Words can encourage or destroy, words can support or mislead, words can confuse or clarify.

Choosing your words is incredibly important.

As a real estate consultant, language is my primary tool. To communicate effectively with my clients, a dialogue is vital. Specifics are imperativ. Responsiveness essential. Feedback mandatory. I'm committed to your needs, and I must know them to fulfill the mission you've assigned me with. The more you show up, the better you lead and the faster I can get you what you want. You don't know what you want? Every conversation gives us insights (I'll help you find what you want) - silence rarely does (I cannot read minds...)

Dr.James Orbinsky (former international president of Médecins Sans Frontières) said in his 1999 Nobel Peace Price Acceptance Speech:

"We are not sure that words can always save lives, but we know that silence can certainly kill".

Only a smile, a laugh or a hug can supercede words in making one another happy. Try them sometime! They do wonders.

Happy Thanksgiving !

Warm regards,

sue
