MORTGAGE CORNER

Loan-to-value explained

We’ve seen it all, from bubbles to busts; from no inventory to a glut of homes. But one thing remains constant: you need to know how home buying works, and for most buyers, a mortgage is a vital piece of the process. Our latest blog focuses on the loan-to-value ratio (LTV), which can have a profound effect on your ability to borrow. For details, read Rebecca’s blog here.

DON'T TURN YOUR HEAT ON YET

Is the housing market finally cooling off?

Today’s hot housing market is one of the peculiar outcrops of the pandemic. Over the last 18 months, home prices in Greater Boston continued to rise, but

there may be a change on the horizon.

New listings were up 25% in the first two weeks of September*, meaning more options for buyers. Also in September, the median listing price for single-family homes and condos dipped slightly, to $675,000**. And price cuts were more common than they had been in August.

Will this translate into a consistent shift in the market? Read this article in the Boston Globe for more.

It's baaaaack!

October 11 marked the return of the Boston Marathon, which had been postponed and then cancelled, for the first time since 1897, due to Covid-19. The Head of the Charles was also cancelled last year, but it's back in full force this weekend. Get out there and support athletes from all over the world—and maybe get inspired to row!
Halloween Happenings

From a costume dance party to a beer and candy pairing to screenings of your favorite horror flicks, Boston is Halloween Heaven. It had better be; Salem gives us street cred and we need to maintain that rep! There are many event pages to choose from but we like Halloween New England; Do617; and Boston Central.

Innovative Pilot Project to Convert Cambridge Yard Waste to Food

The Food Project, a local nonprofit, was in need of leaves to make a rich compost for growing food.

Learning of this need, Save That Stuff, Cambridge's yard waste contractor, took more than 70 tons of yard waste to The Food Project's farm in Lincoln, and 10 months later...success!
