Each year again I'm fascinated by the return of nature's colors to our outdoors. A rainy day can transform the dull wooden langscape into a field of a rich green hue, make trees, bushes and flowers sprout into an ocean of colors. The purple and yellow crocus, the delicate magnolias, the vibrant daffodils - exhilirating! ...
Would that be a time you'd consider reinventing your walls - or maybe move into a new home altogether?
Paint has the power to change the narrative and appearance of any room or home quickest and cheapest....by far. Creative use of color can make things all the more distinctive and evoke an emotional reaction unlike any other…..
Pastels or a vibrant accent wall? What are your favorite shades? Mat or with a delicate shine (that also has the advantage of being wipable)? What about the ceilings?
This is what people associate with colors:
Red: 68% associated red with love.
Blue: 35% linked blue to feelings of relief.

Purple: 25% reported they associated purple with pleasure.
Brown: 36% linked brown to disgust.

Pink: 50% linked pink with love.
2025 color trends: rich and warm shades of terracotta, ochre, and clay pink are increasingly popular in interiors—especially given how beautifully they pair with natural materials such as timber, or marble flooring. Earthy colors are transforming homes into sanctuaries of warmth and serenity. Chocolate brown takes center stage, accompanied by deep zesty reds and burgundies...

Q&A with sue mathys and Interior Designer Eve Jean:
Q: What inspired you to become an interior designer?
Eve: I’ve always had a love for design, from rearranging my childhood bedroom to sketching layouts just for fun. But I never considered it as a career path until I started building my dream home. As the vision started coming to life, neighbors and friends began asking for my help with their spaces. That’s when I realized that this isn’t just something I enjoy, it’s something I’m meant to do.
Q: What influences your work?
Eve: Wellness is at the heart of everything I design. I’m influenced by how spaces make people feel. Calm, inspired, focused, safe.
Q: What is your favorite material to work with?
Eve: I love working with natural materials, especially wood and woven textures like rattan or jute. They work beautifully across different design styles, from minimalist to earthy to luxe.
Q: An example of one of your “small” projects:
Eve: One of my favorite small projects was a powder room makeover for a client who wanted to feel like they were stepping into a tropical oasis.
Q: An example of one of your “large” projects:
Eve: One of our larger projects was a full-scale redesign of a community wellness center. We handled everything, from spatial planning and construction to sourcing materials and managing the buildout. It was complex but deeply fulfilling.
Q: What would you like your work to be known for?
Eve: I want my work to be known for creating spaces that feel like a breath of fresh air, environments that restore, inspire, and support well-being.
Q: Your favorite challenge?
Eve: Designing within constraints, whether it’s a tight budget, limited space, has become a challenge I genuinely enjoy. It pushes creativity to the next level.
Q:Some happiest moments of your career?
Eve: Designing spaces for a women’s shelter in their new homes and creating wellness spaces where students walk in and immediately feel a sense of calm. It’s a feeling they can’t always put into words, but their body language speaks volumes. It's always rewarding when clients become emotional because their new space finally feels like them.
Q: What don’t people know about your work?
Eve: People often think interior design is all about picking paint colors and throw pillows, but it’s so much deeper. My work involves space planning, sourcing, managing contractors, understanding emotional wellness, and making sure every decision supports the client’s lifestyle or mission.
Q: What kind of client do you work with best?
Eve: When they trust the process, we make magic.
