Subways Set a Ridership Record on Thursday, September 8th

...carrying 3,641,033 riders, a 34.8 percent increase from the comparable day in 2021. The record set is the highest day of subway ridership since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic on March 12, 2020. Subways and Buses Carried 5 Million Riders, Highest Combined Total Since Spring 2022.

Say Farewell to the MetroCard 
In the not-so-distant future, the MetroCard Machine will be phased out and replaced with OMNY vending machines. Times change and the MTA is nearing the end of the transition from the swipe-based MetroCard to the new, contactless OMNY platform. The change was announced in 2019 and it’s been a long road to get where we are. Read YMMV

NYC Did You Know?

This insignia was originally struck on a medal of honor in 1877 by Tiffany & Co. It was issued to the first New York City police officer shot in the line of duty. The New York Yankees adopted the logo and it became part of the uniform in 1909.

The Oldest-Standing Building In Manhattan...was built in 1719 and founded as Fraunces Tavern in 1762. Today, the Fraunces Tavern Museum is a NYC Landmark, a stop along the Freedom Trail and the city block it sits on is designated a Historic District on the National Register. 

The tavern is best known as the site of General George Washington’s farewell speech to his officers in 1783.

1. Calogero, my 5th cousin, gives us a tour of Cesaro, the town my dad's-mom's side of the family settled in(from Spain) nearly 300 years ago. #5 just below, is the residence where it all started.

3. Amazing local Cefalu wine

4. Borgetto, where my mom's dad's side of the family lived for many, many generations. Natale's (glasses) grandfather and my grandfather were brothers.

6. Lido Beach, Cefalu

7. Agrigento, Valley of the Temples

8 & 9. Amazing food and espresso everywhere.

10. My homeland from the sky.

11. A little bareback riding.

12. Back in Cesaro with Apollonia and Calogero.
