August 2025

Dear All,

When was the last time you truly experienced solitude?

Solitude boosts creativity by offering the necessary space for ideas to flourish. Whether it’s writing, playing the piano, painting, gardening, praying, or meditating, being alone is often what the brain needs to perform these activities well. In these moments of isolation, the default network is busy forging new synaptic connections, strengthening our skills and ability to absorb new information, and nurturing our creativity more effectively. (CNBC)

Solitude is not loneliness. It a choice to be quiet and alone. In combination with nature, solitude is rejuvenating. Wise people also call it a pause, or being in the moment. Being present. Let go of the busy thoughts and comparisons, and of what you feel is necessary to shout out into the world. Maybe the world needs more of your being and less of your marketing. A blank page or canvas, a sweet melody or an odd harmony, tending to plants, playing with your child or your dog, or turning inside and be still can be the empty space from which new ideas sprout.

Solitude is liberating, as it does away with all the distractions, the "what if's", the worries and the anxieties. If that sounds like something you haven't indulged in lately, it's time for a date with solitude. You won't regret it.

Warmly,

sue
