I'm greeting May with one of my favorite @Richard Koek images: Eastern Parkway - a powerful symbol of how colorful New York City is! This is the last newsletter opening with an image by Richard Koek - at the end of a series of featuring his photos in my newsletter, I am once more adding our February Q&A for all of you who haven't read it yet. Look out for his stunning work capturing the magic and beauty of mundane moments in New York City! Thank you, Richard Koek, for giving me the privilege to share your art. My new segment "Featuring" will continue in the monthly newsletters to come - stay tuned! In the meantime the NYC real estate market has picked up and is in full spring swing. Buyers are more active, especially the Brooklyn market is on fire, as I notice when going out with the buyers looking to purchase in Brooklyn. Investors are returning to the city. My Hamilton Heights listing (725 Riverside Dr. #6E) just sold, my TriBeCa Loft listing (10 Jay St. # 6C) just had a price improvement. There is opportunity, everywhere. It just has to be recognized. We hear more music in the streets and parks - and protect our eyes with sunglasses. The new normal - an unstable world - is something we're learning to live with. The power of spring inspires us all. Lets open our senses again to our surroundings and our relationships. People are full or surprises - and so is the world. Might as well enjoy the ride! For more real estate news, featured listings, my recommendations for NYC cultural events in May, and my Q&A with Richard Koek, scroll down. |

This spacious and bright, 678 SF 1 bedroom 1 bath Condo in Hamilton Heights went into contract after only 48 Days on the market and sold My sincere thanks to the seller for a great collaboration, and congratulations to the buyer, my new neighbor! "Sue Mathys sold my condo apartment in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan, in less than 3 months! This didn't happen just because of good luck but because of Sue's extraordinary due diligence, efficiency and her great experience in the NYC real estate market. I was out of town while the apartment was on the market and I was very comfortable knowing that she was taking care of everything, including getting the apartment ready to be put on sale, and all showings. I was very lucky to have her as my agent. Thank you, Sue! -Gustavo I. |

| Jokes About Millennial Homeowners Can Stop Now |
| "In what is being described as a historic shift, the millennial generation is now made up of more homeowners than renters, according to new data released by RentCafe. After years of being known as the “renter generation,” millennials tipped the scale, largely due to the 7 million people in the generation who bought homes in the last five years, bringing the total percentage of millennial homeowners up to 52%. Now, according to the data, Gen Z, who range from 11 to 25 years old according to Pew Research, is the only age group made up of a majority of renters." |

THURSDAY - SATURDAY MAY 11-13 |
| Chrissy Angliker's painting practice is an active conversation with the paint material. Building up the paint to create heavily textured works, Angliker’s imagery exists on a spectrum as it becomes increasingly indiscernible and abstracted the closer it is viewed. Massey Klein Gallery

| Composer and saxophonist Daniel Schnyder and pianist Tommaso Perrazo are excited to bring Schnyder’s original works to Piano on Park. Schnyder’s compositions are known to draw upon jazz and avant garde idioms in practically equal measure, producing a heady brew which is tuneful, rhythmic and immediately appealing without being trite. |

• Question Sue Mathys: When did you realize that you’re a photographic storyteller? Answer Richard Koek: As a teenager I brought home holiday photos with people I didn’t know in them. They sparked my peers’ interest and confusion • Q: Did you have a photographer idol? RK: August Sander (a German photographer in the early 20th century) inspired me to see human beings in their microcosm, to make people bigger than life, and - to catch the beauty • Q: What happened on the first day you arrived in New York? RK: I remember it vividly: in June 2000 I decided to stay in New York. I had just rented a shabby artist space in Brooklyn, and celebrated my new life change with a bottle of beer in hand on the silver roof watching the skyline of New York - taking it all in • Q: How has NYC changed since then? RK: New York City is a city in transit. I cherish all changes she goes through. Just like how I have gone through big changes over time • Q: Have you changed since you’ve lived in NYC? RK: I’m more at ease today with things that are out of my control • Q: How does your art inform your life and vice versa? RK: Art informs my life through the people who see my photos and connect with me through them. I learn so much about my art from them. Art is healing • Q: How long does a photoshoot take? RK: A photoshoot can take a second or an hour, both have their magic. I will take the time to stay with it until I get the image I’m going for • Q: What is essential for the way you create? RK: I don’t “think” when I shoot - it’s more of a channeling, a visual gut feeling. I try not to think too much, just capture. I always remember how I feel after catching a unique image. It’s that flash of euphoria that keeps me going. • Q: What is the idea behind postcards from New York? RK: Postcards from New York is a Covid pandemic project. A new fascinating way to connect with the world who wanted to know from me how things were going in the NYC I’ve grown very fond of RK: To capture the beauty of the mundane moment. If I can inspire people to be aware of and feel the beauty of daily life, our lives can be so much more enjoyable • Q: Where can people who are interested in seeing more of your art, turn to? • Q: What are upcoming projects? RK: The publisher of my photo book NEW YORK, NEW YORK is sending me to Japan in March to create a photo series of Urban Japan. I’m excited to go on this journey! |
