About Bob
Call me Bob. Everyone else does.

Fresh out of college at Northern Arizona University I moved to Hana, Maui in 1978 to build and establish a new nursery. All my life growing up in Phoenix I had been good with plants. When the opportunity arose for a fresh adventure in exotic Hawaii, I jumped at the chance. After a few years of working on the nursery by day and sleeping at a Nahiku piggery by night (true story - I lived outside for about 2 years) I decided to move a little closer to civilization. I operated protea and carnation farms in Upper Kula. We had running water, but no electricity or indoor plumbing. After my Jeremiah Johnson years, I discovered real estate in 1984 and reentered back into society.

I obtained my Hawaii Broker’s license in 1987 and was one of the youngest brokerage owners on Maui at that time. I’ve always enjoyed working with buyers and sellers, but even at the beginning of my career I felt like I had more to give.

Fast forward 30 years and I’ve now operated several real estate companies as General Manager, Principal Broker, or Broker-in-Charge. Mentorship and leading positive change within the industry are my favorite aspects of my real estate career. I have been extremely active with the Realtors Association of Maui, twice serving as the Association’s President. I have been a member of several committees over the years and have held most elected positions on the Board of Directors at one time or another. I was voted Realtor of the Year in 2012. I was the Sales Manager for Compass Maui for 5 years. For the past 30 years I have also been practicing a martial art called Aikido which teaches (among other things) how to keep a calm mind, a skill I find particularly useful in my day-to-day real estate business.

Maui has changed since the good ol’ days, but I’m grateful to have spent the majority of my life here. Now I reside Upcountry with four solid walls, functional plumbing, and a photovoltaic system for electricity. Plus my citrus orchard produces some of the best oranges on Maui.

Call me to talk story about plants or properties, I’m happy to share some tips.

Aloha,

Bob
