About Charles
With Padraic Gallagher and Farah Alli, Charles Rubenstein founded Story Residential in 2021 to provide their clientele with a personalized approach to profitable real estate investing.
Known for his depth of knowledge and unequaled and sincere passion for serving his clients, Charles is an indispensable advisor and advocate. His team, Story Residential, is ranked #1 Large Team in Hudson County and #7 in New Jersey by RealTrends. Story Residential has completed over $2 billion in lifetime residential sales across Hudson, Bergen, and Monmouth Counties – in 2025 alone, the team closed $204 million in transaction volume.
Prior to joining Compass – honored to be the largest brokerage in the United States by sales volume for the fourth year in a row – Charles' team consistently ranked among the top 0.5% of all agents and teams within a network of more than 51,000 agents in 1,600 offices across 47 states while with their previous brokerage from 2014-2021.
Charles grew up in a devoutly real estate family in Baltimore, Maryland. His mother and father were homebuilders and developers that constructed and developed more than 5,500 homes – including creating a 435-acre planned unit development in northwest Baltimore that is now home to more than 10,000 people – so much of Charles’ early life was spent in meetings and on job sites where he learned first-hand how real property is conceived of, constructed, marketed and sold. Charles’ grandfather and great-grandfather were also homebuilders and developers; they are the only father and son to have been president of the National Association of Homebuilders, and they are both members of the National Housing Hall of Fame.
Charles measures his success through his ability to help his clients realize their individualized lifestyle goals and he employs an expansive network of lenders, attorneys, contractors, skilled tradespersons, and other service providers to ensure that every touch-point is an easy, efficient, and successful process. A born connector, Charles is honored to have the opportunity to play such a special role in his clients’ lives as he helps manifest their ideal conception of home.
Charles has been a director and council member of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation - New York since 2012, and a director of the Baltimore-based Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Charitable Funds since 2015.
