About David
Real estate decisions are rarely just about the house. They’re about contracts, money, negotiation, risk, timing—and often a lot of people and competing considerations.
That’s where David Benett’s background comes in.
David is a Compass Real Estate Advisor serving Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and the broader 680 corridor. Before becoming a Realtor, he spent more than 20 years as a California attorney and more than a decade as a founder and CEO. His legal career focused on complex transactions, international business and M&A, while his operating career involved building, scaling and ultimately exiting two businesses, including an eight-figure sale as a turnaround CEO.
For the past eight years, David has also been building and operating his own real estate portfolio, including rental properties in Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill and a short-term rental in Glen Ellen. He understands real estate from the perspective of an advisor, owner and investor.
Today, David brings those experiences together to help buyers, sellers and investors make smart, informed decisions. He is particularly drawn to transactions where the circumstances are more complicated than a conventional home sale—whether that involves a difficult negotiation, unusual property considerations, inherited real estate, multiple stakeholders, fiduciary responsibilities or a significant life transition.
David also has firsthand experience operating a company that was held within a probate estate under a court-appointed executor. That experience gave him a practical understanding of the dynamics that can arise in estate and fiduciary situations and reinforced the importance of communication, documentation, role clarity and anticipating issues early.
His approach is straightforward: understand what matters, ask the right questions, anticipate problems before they become expensive problems, and communicate clearly throughout the process. David doesn’t believe great representation is simply about getting a transaction to the finish line. It’s about helping clients understand what they’re doing, why it matters, and what could happen next.
See the risks before they become problems.
