About David
David joined the Gentry Team in 2020 following a distinguished 37-year career in media, spent entirely in Moore County. He began his career as a morning show host and news and public affairs director for WOZ-FM Radio, later spent seven years as The Fayetteville Observer’s Moore County correspondent, and went on to serve for 20 years as managing editor of The Pilot newspaper in Southern Pines. Throughout his journalism career, David earned numerous awards for his writing and photography.
Before becoming a licensed real estate agent, David spent six years as the Gentry Team’s marketing coordinator. In that role, he managed print and social media marketing, photographed new listings, and created virtual home tours. Working closely with the team and its clients gave David an in-depth understanding of the real estate business and reinforced something he has valued throughout his career: the importance of building strong, lasting relationships.
A Moore County native who has spent his entire professional life in the area, David brings an exceptional knowledge of the community to his role as a Realtor. His decades of experience telling the stories of Moore County, combined with his years working behind the scenes in real estate, give him a unique perspective as he helps buyers navigate the market and find the right place to call home.
Community involvement has also been an important part of David’s life. He has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including the United Way of Moore County, the former Sandhills Food Bank, Friend to Friend, and Family Promise of Moore County. He is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills, serves on its board of directors, and is the club’s incoming president. David is also a graduate of the Moore County Leadership Institute through the Moore County Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of the Miss Moore County-Miss Sandhills Scholarship Organization.
David is a member of Southern Pines First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon and sings in the choir.
An avid photographer, David especially enjoys photographing sports and performing arts at his alma mater, Pinecrest High School. In recognition of his dedication, the school honored him with the title of “Official Photographer of the Pinecrest Patriots.”
After spending his career connecting with the people, places, and stories that make Moore County special, David is excited to begin this next chapter in real estate. He looks forward to putting his local knowledge, strong community relationships, and commitment to service to work helping buyers find the right home in the place he has always called home.
