Sue Goodhart

For more than 30 years, Sue Goodhart has helped clients navigate real estate throughout Alexandria and the greater Washington region, combining deep market knowledge with a highly personal approach to client service.

Sue began her real estate career in 1992 and today serves as CEO and co-owner of The Goodhart Group, a Compass real estate team she owns with her husband, Marty, and daughter, Allison Goodhart DuShuttle. In 2018, the family became founding members of Compass's Alexandria office.

As a hands-on listing specialist and trusted advisor, Sue has guided clients through virtually every stage of life—from first homes and growing families to relocations, downsizing, retirement, and other major transitions. Her philosophy is simple: listen carefully, understand what matters most to each client, anticipate problems before they arise, and provide the experience and resources needed to make confident decisions.

Sue's connection to Alexandria extends well beyond real estate. Her career as a local entrepreneur began in 1981, when she and Marty became co-owners of The Wicker Shoppe, a family-owned retail business in Old Town Alexandria that they operated through 1994. That experience gave Sue firsthand insight into small business, customer service, and the importance of a strong local community.

Community leadership has remained an important part of Sue's life. She served on the Board of Trustees of St. Coletta of Greater Washington from 2009–2023, first as Vice Chair and later as President of the Board. She served on The Campagna Center Board of Directors from 2016–2022, including as Chair of the Development Committee. She has also held leadership roles with the Choral Arts Society of Washington and The Fund for Alexandria's Child and is a past president of the Seminary Ridge Civic Association.

Sue currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as Chair of Development and has been nominated to serve as Chair-Elect in 2027 and Chair in 2028.

Her business and community involvement has earned her several honors. The Goodhart Group was named the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce's 2019 Overall Business of the Year and has been recognized for small-business philanthropy. Sue has received The Campagna Center's Golden Halo Award and, together with her daughter Allison, Senior Services of Alexandria's Generation to Generation Award.

Sue earned a Master of City and Regional Planning from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from Dickinson College. Her planning background, combined with decades of real estate and business experience, gives her a distinctive perspective on homes, neighborhoods, development, and what makes communities thrive.

For Sue, real estate has never been simply about buying and selling houses. It's about people, relationships, neighborhoods, and helping clients move confidently into the next chapter of their lives.
