Lisa’s mom was a first-generation Mexican-American from a family that could not afford to send her to college. Artie started as a cafeteria worker in her children’s elementary school, enrolled in junior college, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and sadly passed away shortly after achieving her dream of becoming a principal. The Artemisa Garcia Family Scholarship honors her life’s work of helping lower-income students get a college education and has enabled more than 50 Latino/a high school students to attend college in her name. Each May, The Garcia/Fazio Team hosts Fiesta for a Cause to support this worthy scholarship fund, however, donations are welcome year round at www.ontocollege.org
