About James
James Petrie and his father Ed Petrie are the founding agents of Compass in the Hamptons, and have played an integral role in building the thriving Compass team. In less than five years, Compass has become a top brokerage in the Hamptons and carries a commanding reputation in the community. Ed has guided James to early success in his real estate career. Together they are top producers at Compass, with Ed acting as a mentor and trusted advisor.

James has experience transacting at all price points from Southampton to Montauk, and has built his own business while playing a key role in some of the biggest deals along the ocean and coveted estate sections. Through Compass' collaborative national community James has built a perpetuating referral network. Ask him about any major market in the country and he will have an experienced broker to recommend.

James earned a degree in Environmental Studies with a focus on sustainable design from the University of Colorado before returning to the Hamptons to build his real estate career and resume his life in East Hampton. As an active member of the local community, James is well-versed in the real estate landscape and has an extensive regional network. James' involvement in the local community stems beyond real estate. He is an avid sportsman, former East Hampton lifeguard and surfing enthusiast.
