Because Jimmy's business is driven mostly by word-of-mouth referrals, his work tends to go wherever his clients' needs take him. As a result, Jimmy has transactional experience across a broad range of residential property types and neighborhoods, with special expertise in Downtown Manhattan and the "Brownstone Brooklyn" neighborhoods adjacent to, north, and west of Prospect Park. Other specialties include: the marketing of luxury properties, representing first-time home buyers, co-op board requirements, and negotiating in multiple-offer contexts.

Having worked in New York City real estate since early 2008, Jimmy Johnson has established a record of success across a wide range of residential transaction types and market conditions. A graduate of the Theater Studies program at Yale University, Jimmy started his career in New York in 2003 as a recruiter for a prestigious management consulting firm, eventually managing a national MBA recruiting program at 18 universities across the country. His success in guiding candidates towards the right career naturally serves him well as he guides clients along another of life's most rewarding journeys: finding their place in the world. Jimmy’s work is driven by the same values he brought to bear on his successful recruiting career: client impact first and foremost, a dedication to making the experience meaningful and enjoyable, and a commitment to continual professional growth and the highest ethical principles.
Having launched his real estate business just months before the onset of the 2008 financial crisis, Jimmy learned quickly the importance of adaptability and innovation in this business. His early years as a rental agent provided a great basis of knowledge of the city’s neighborhoods and housing stock. As his career developed, Jimmy gained deep experience with first-time buyers and came to love the excitement of helping renters become homeowners for the first time.
Jimmy launched The Jimmy Johnson Team in 2015, allowing him to bring a wider array of resources to his clients across Brooklyn and Manhattan. Now overseeing a business that is essentially 100% referral-based, Jimmy's team works with sellers of condos, co-ops, & townhouses, first-time buyers, investors, landlords, 1031 Exchange clients, renters, and corporate relocations. Whether you are a seller looking for top-dollar, a buyer looking for a new space that reflects your distinctive character, or an investor expanding your portfolio, Jimmy and his team can help you articulate your goals and create a plan to achieve them. Jimmy's clients appreciate his easygoing attitude, collaborative low-pressure approach, and dedication to ensuring the outcome they deserve.
"Nothing says who we are more than where we live. Our homes reflect our values, our personality, and our style; so it's no wonder that buying or selling an apartment is often an emotional experience." By empowering his clients with a deeper understanding of every step of the process, Jimmy makes his buyers and sellers feel comfortable and confident throughout the transaction, connecting them with his roster of the city’s best attorneys, mortgage lenders, contractors, and architects. "One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping clients think outside the box to see opportunities they may not have considered. I seek to help my clients not only achieve their goals, but also feel good about the decisions they've made along the way."
When not busy working, Jimmy loves to travel, visiting friends and family across the country and abroad. Back home in New York, Jimmy is a frequent theater and opera-goer, and he serves on the Board of Directors of the Stonewall Community Foundation, New York's only public foundation dedicated to serving the LGBTQ community. Jimmy also sings in the Empire City Men's Chorus, a men's choral ensemble celebrating their 25th anniversary, with concert performances several times a year. On Saturdays, he spends time at the beach in Fire Island or exploring the coffee shops, boutiques, and bluestone sidewalks of his favorite neighborhood, Cobble Hill, where he has lived since 2012.
