Mark Pateman brings over 25 years of experience in real estate, law, and leadership to his role
as Principal Agent at Compass in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia. Known for his strategic insight and
deep institutional knowledge, Mark specializes in residential land and development, high-end
resales, historic property restoration, and modern modular construction. His practice combines a
strong command of real estate fundamentals with a passion for architecture, placemaking, and
sustainable growth.
Mark began his career as a real estate and capital markets attorney with Cadwalader, advising
CMBS lenders and issuers, and later expanded into title, conveyancing, leasing, and
development law at Shutts & Bowen. He transitioned from law into brokerage and was acquired
by Cushman & Wakefield in 2006, where he spent over 16 years building one of South Florida’s
most dynamic commercial real estate platforms. As Managing Principal, Mark led diverse teams
through major mergers and a public offering, while maintaining dominant market share across
asset classes.
An effective communicator and skilled negotiator, Mark has advised institutional buyers and
sellers on multifamily dispositions, consulted public agencies on P3 development and TOD site
selection, and served as Head of Enterprise Sales for a proptech SaaS firm. He also brings a
creative lens to real estate marketing and storytelling—skills honed through years of producing
pitch materials, videos, and quarterly insights.
Now rooted in the rich architectural and community fabric of Philadelphia’s northwest
neighborhoods, Mark focuses on the full life cycle of residential property—unlocking
development value, preserving historic character, and promoting resilient, livable design. His
work reflects a long-standing commitment to urbanism, climate-conscious development, and the circular economy.
In addition to his Pennsylvania real estate license, Mark is a licensed broker in Florida, a
member of the New York and Florida Bars, and an active member of the Urban Land Institute in
Philadelphia. He holds dual citizenship in the US and UK, and in his spare time enjoys hiking,
old maps, kayaking, skiing, motorcycles, aviation history, and all things Tolkien. He is also a
certified FORA travel advisor, and a volunteer firefighter with the Conshohocken Fire Company.
