About Matthew
Matt Oppenheim brings a perspective to residential real estate that few brokers can offer. Before joining Compass, he spent years developing and building custom luxury homes in Washington, D.C., managing complex renovations and working alongside dozens of real estate agents. Seeing the business from the developer’s side taught him what separates an exceptional advisor from the rest: understanding value, anticipating challenges and protecting a client’s interests beyond the transaction.
Matt lives by a simple philosophy: only counterfeiters and the Federal Reserve “make money.” Everyone else earns it by creating value. Whether helping a client purchase a home, prepare a property for sale, assess renovation potential or evaluate an investment, his focus is on sound judgment and tangible value.
Matt studied Architectural Studies and Studio Art at Hobart and William Smith Colleges before earning a Master’s in Real Estate Development from the University of Maryland. He began his career as a Project Engineer with Whiting Turner, later worked with the Capital Markets Group at Walker & Dunlop, and subsequently established MO/DE, Matthew Oppenheim Development. As managing member and lead developer, he has led multiple complex adaptive reuse projects, most recently completing the redevelopment of Hooper House and is currently supporting the redevelopment as a co-developer on North Avenue Market.
Matt believes a project is only as strong as the people working together to bring it to life. He brings that collaborative approach to his Compass clients, combining construction knowledge, design fluency, financial understanding and direct communication to help them make informed decisions.
After nearly two decades working in construction, finance and development on the East Coast, Matt and his family moved across the country to make Golden, Colorado, home. The experience gave him a firsthand appreciation for the nuances of relocation, from understanding a new market and comparing communities to finding the place that truly fits a family’s lifestyle. While continuing to support long-term development projects back East, he has developed a deep familiarity with Golden and the Front Range.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys camping throughout Colorado with his family, mountain biking, skiing both on piste and in the backcountry, and playing piano. He has completed an Ironman and continues to enjoy struggling at the guitar.
