Prior to his real estate career, Richard served on the New Orleans Fire Department for 33 years as a District Chief, protecting lives and property in the city of New Orleans. During Hurricane Katrina, he was assigned as Incident Commander in the Unified Command alongside federal and local agencies. Despite the devastation Katrina brought, his leadership allowed New Orleans Fire Fighters to perform at the highest level of their training and experience. For his performance of duties, Richard was honored with the prestigious Charles E. Dunbar, Jr. Award, the highest honor awarded by the Louisiana Civil Service League to classified employees who distinguish themselves through unselfish service, workplace improvement, and personal initiative.
A strong believer in community service, Richard has joined New Orleans Fire Fighters for their annual Christmas party supporting special education children at St. Michael Special School for the last 40 years. He has also served as the Chairman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for over 30 years, during which his team has raised over $500,000 locally. Richard and his wife are Charter Members of the World War II Museum and are annual supporters of the United Way, the Wounded Warriors Project, and Disabled American Veterans.
