I started in real estate before I was married or had kids. I had a life-changing realtor, Don (now retired), who encouraged me and my boyfriend to buy a duplex in San Francisco so that the rents would pay our mortgage.

 
A few years later, my husband and I then converted that duplex into a triplex, learning every detail of the process—from permits to property management—and kept it as a rental income property when we moved our family of four to my husband’s home town, Mill Valley.

 
That first investment opened my eyes to the power of real estate as a wealth-building tool. In Mill Valley, we purchased our primary home with a legal 2-bedroom, 1-bath unit in the yard (before ADUs were even a thing), and we’ve since expanded our portfolio to include multiple units across Mill Valley and the Bay Area. Through it all, I manage these properties myself—balancing real estate alongside careers as a technical writer, teacher, mother, and award-winning author.

 
After years of hands-on experience building my family's portfolio—multi-family rentals, short-term rentals, vacation homes, ground-up ADUs, lots of remodels, 1031 exchanges, reverse 1031 exchanges, private lending—I realized something important: I want to help others build wealth through real estate.
