Tom Wiltberger

Tom has been practicing real estate in the Triangle since 2002 and is one of Terra Nova’s and the area’s top producers. He works with both sellers and buyers, with practice areas in residential resale, new construction, commercial, and investment properties. Tom's is an expert in the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham and surrounding areas.  His consultative approach and extensive negotiating experience make him well-suited to guide clients through their real estate challenges, whether that is a first-time purchase or the sale of a luxury property. Tom has led Terra Nova’s marketing efforts for many new neighborhoods and consulted for developer and builder clients on single family, townhome, and condominium neighborhood development. While working with clients - selling or buying - is his primary focus, Tom has assisted in managing the firm since becoming a partner owner in 2011. He has helped to grow the firm by recruiting some of the best brokers in the area, assisted in office expansion and relocation, as well as Terra Nova’s partnership with Compass. Tom prides himself on providing exceptional client service, and works primarily by referral. 

In the Community 

Tom keeps busy around town. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill Carrboro, including in leadership positions of 2021 Board Chair, formerly Chair of the Government Affairs Committee, and others. Tom is also a board member and President of the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation, helping with fundraising efforts for the area’s best library.  He is a member of the Orange Chatham Association of Realtors, and previously chaired the BIC Council at the association. Tom was recognized in 2015 as Realtor of the Year by OCHAR. He previously served on the Town of Carrboro Appearance and Historic Preservation Commission where he started the Historic Carrboro Plaque Program.  He keeps track of his Fighting Irish as a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Eastern NC. For his kids, he has been a youth soccer, basketball, and mountain biking coach.  

Tom joined Terra Nova in 2002 after a successful 11-year career in the corporate sales and marketing world, selling technology and consulting solutions to some of the country’s largest companies. He brings that professional background of strong negotiating skills, marketing experience, sales training, and interpersonal capabilities to serve his clients in real estate. In his early career, Tom sold elevators and escalators, which he will tell you was an up-and-down business. He currently advises his family’s winery business.  Tom holds a BA from the University of Notre Dame. 

When he’s not helping clients with their real estate needs, Tom can be found spending time with his wonderful wife, Donna, and his two children, Ada and Max. They call Carrboro home, where they live in a 102-year old house downtown. He knows enough about renovating old homes to give his clients a tip or two. Tom is often seen around town cheering for Ada in a tennis match, watching Max in a soccer game, or out mountain biking one of the many Triangle area trails. He occasionally escapes to the NC mountains, Bald Head Island or the Finger Lakes area with his family. Tom also likes to play tennis, sail, ski, camp, and hike. He follows Notre Dame football and basketball but shares his enthusiasm for college sports with the Tar Heels as well.
