About the Role
The CIH Data & Analytics organization produces data-driven research and content that help agents, consumers, and the media understand what's happening in housing markets. We are looking for a Real Estate Market Analyst to bring Northern California focus to the real estate professionals we serve..
You will work directly with the Chief Economist and the CIH Data & Analytics team to produce research, analysis, and content that translates market data into insights for agents, consumers, and the media.
Responsibilities
Research & Analysis
- Produce regional and local market analyses across standard real estate metrics, including inventory, sales pace, price trends, and days on market.
- Monitor macroeconomic indicators — including mortgage rates, employment, and consumer sentiment — and translate their implications for Northern California housing markets.
- Contribute research on topics such as luxury market dynamics, neighborhood-level trends, and price-tier segmentation.
Content & Communication
- Write market reports, commentaries, and data-driven narratives for agents, consumers, and journalists.
- Prepare data summaries, charts, and talking points to support media and PR efforts.
- Respond promptly to media inquiries, serving as a credible and accessible source for local market data and context.
Data Visualization & Presentation
- Produce data visualizations that make housing and economic data accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
- Build presentation materials for agents and their clients, as well as for sales meetings and leadership briefings.
- Contribute to a consistent visual style for Compass research output across reports, presentations, and social media.
Requirements
- 5+ years relevant industry experience
- Bay Area and Northern California real estate market analysis experience, with ability to grow for other local market analyses around the country.
- Strong analytical background with a commitment to self-directed data research.
- Absolute dedication to honest, straightforward, and trustworthy market analysis.
- Familiarity with standard real estate statistical definitions and local MLS programs and data systems.
- Excellent written communication skills: able to produce succinct, cogent explanations of market statistics, conditions, and trends with the appropriate context for each audience.
- Experience producing charts and graphics for research or media; familiarity with tools such as Flourish or Datawrapper.
- Ability to engage proactively with the media and respond immediately to press inquiries.
- Familiarity with macroeconomic data and its relationship to housing markets.
- Curiosity and willingness to explore data from new angles, surface unexpected findings, and learn how AI can assist in and improve market research.
- This role is 100% Onsite based out of our HQ (Union Square)
Other Skills
- Background in residential real estate, appraisal, urban planning, or a related field.
- Experience collaborating with editorial or communications teams on consumer-facing content.
- Familiarity with national real estate data sources such as NAR, Census, or Zillow Research.
- You should know and exemplify the Compass Entrepreneurship Principles.
Compensation: The salary pay range for this position is $120,700 - $150,000 however, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
