Bungalow heaven best describes the scenic neighborhood that is part of the Oakwood national historic district that overlays and extends just beyond the Oakwood local historic district.
Live and entertain outdoors. Spacious two level deck has potential for a screened in porch. Large concrete driveway and yard can accommodate a small garage/shed or even a carport. Walk in crawlspace has potential to become a work shop or wine cellar.
Sellers are a designer couple and family who were recently lured to Seattle. They purchased the home in 2005 as it was undergoing a major rehab and added their own personal touches throughout the house. They are only the 2nd owners since the 1930s.
The bright loft-like openness offers options for configuring living and dining spaces adjacent to the kitchen. The fireplace is decorative.
With plenty of handsome cabinets and solid surface countertops, this is not your great grandmothers 1930s kitchen.
Adding to the loft-like feel is a symphony of wood tone colors and finishes that include the tall tongue-in-grove ceiling and rough-cut post and beam.
The two master suites are separated, one at the back of the house opening off of the family room, the other toward the front opening off of the living/dining room.
Overlooking the back yard, this master suite has a large closet and bath with slate-tile floor. The sellers added carpet over the original hardwood floors when their twins were born.
A slate-tiled, windowed hall leads to the back porch and deck from the kitchen. Offering a 2nd access to the back bath, It doubles as a mud room and laundry coveniently located by the back door.
The master suite in the middle of the house has a large walk in closet and original hardwood floors. Window blinds throughout the house are double cellular top down bottom up blinds offering optimal privacy, extra insulation and natural light.
The unique large walk in master shower has a pebble stoned floor, tiled seating and large shower ledge with built in planter.
While located just outside the boundary of the non-profit Oakwood community association roughly marked by signs, many neighbors participate in Oakwood activities that include a 4th of July parade and picnic and holiday Candlelight Tour.
Family friendly Friday night concerts are a neighborhood gathering place on the lawn of the Mordecai Historic house and park that is located in the nearby Mordecai national historic district.
The Oakwood Common is a play area for toddlers. Canines play at the nearby off-leash Oakwood dog park.
Adults can play and shop at the nearby Person Street shops that include Oak City Cycling, Slingshot Coffee, Nicoles Art Gallery, Rapid Fitness and more coming. Buy vegetables and volunteer time at the non-profit Raleigh City Farm at end of Franklin St.
Grab lunch and an old fashioned vanilla coke at the Person Street Pharmacy?
Lunch or and diner at the PieBird?
A jazz , blues or folk concert at Marsh Woodwinds?
Or a play at the Burning Coal Theater.
Seaboard Station includes Ace Hardware, Tylers Taproom, Logans nursery, Phydeaux Pets, Marigold Parlor, J Betskis, Galatea Boutique, Seaboard 18 and much more.
Teach, study or attend concerts at William Peace University.
Visit the Governor or go to work in the state government offices.
Across from the Peace University, the new NC AIA Center for Architecture and Design is a venue for community meetings and celebrations. It is part of the Blount Street Commons development providing live-work-play options that include Gallery C.
Get the picture, you can walk everywhere including the NC museums and downtown towers viewed here looking south from the AIA HQ building.
It is a versatile floor plan she may have dreamed about. The kitchen opens to space that can be a family, dining, breakfast room, or den.
