It was designed by Natchez native, Sidney V. Stratton, of the highly respected New York architectural firm of McKim, Meade, & White. Above the rotunda, the ornate dome appears to rise almost 30 feet. The entrance hall mantle is a three-dimensional work of art with beautifully sculptured rose blooms branching outward. Each and every fireplace mantle throughout the house is unique with decorative designs. There is no one mantle in the house, exactly alike. The curving staircase balustrade is solidly constructed, and begins with a crystal sphere ball on top of the base newel, leading up to the S-shaped hallway on the second floor. The main entrance is adorned with two elegant and spacious parlors, one on either side of the rotunda, as well as a sophisticated dining room. Baccarat chandeliers hang from the ceilings of one of the parlors and the dining room. The master bedroom and it's full bathroom are also on the first floor, along with the kitchen, butler's pantry, den, and second 3/4 bathroom. Upstairs provides four additional finished bedrooms and one unfinished bedroom, one full bathroom, and two 3/4 bathrooms. This home also includes an elevator.
