In 1921, a local family, who had made their fortune in the furniture business, commissioned the stone home to be built. The blue slate granite was acquired from a quarry in Winnsboro, SC to construct the exterior. The grounds, known to be covered with hundreds of rose and azaleas bushes, gave the property its name - The Rose Arden. The Rose Arden welcomed many visitors over the years, and was a well-known carriage stop between Greenville and Spartanburg, where guests would stay, and horses could rest by the natural spring. An addition was built in 2003 to make room for their growing family, which increased the square footage to over 3600 sqft, and placed the master on the main floor. Even as many years have passed, the quality and charm within the home has not diminished. Many of the historic features are still featured today – original 9.5’ ceilings, hardwood floors, thick beveled glass and solid wood doors, crystal knobs, 24” wide mouldings around doors and windows of the original house, and large windows that bring in plenty of natural light. It is truly a historian’s dream. With four bedrooms, including a master on the main floor, three and a half bathrooms, updated kitchen that opens to the large family den, dining room, study that could also be used as an ensuite 5th bedroom, and more, this home has so much to offer!
