The National Park Service ranks it highly in its Nation Rivers Inventory for scenery and geology. The Big Huron River and its branches are a State designated Type 4 Fishing River. The Big Huron River is the best steelhead stream in the area and hosts steelhead in the spring & fall with coho salmon and pink salmon in the fall. The MI Natural Resource Commission designated the Big Huron River as one of the project streams to restore coaster brook trout populations. The southern end of the parcel is about a little over a mile downstream from Big Erick's Bridge. There is legal access to the property along a road that leads to a small, quaint, one room cabin built in 2011. The cabin is located about 200 feet from the river. The cabin is wired for a generator which is included in the sale. It was built near the top edge of the ridge that runs along the river providing outstanding views of the river below. A short trek along a rustic path will have you fishing on your own river frontage. The deep pools in the river have produced steelhead that you will want to mount for display. The tract is located on the western edge of the Huron Mountains and is situated in the middle of the Huron River Deer Wintering Complex. Wildlife in the area include white-tailed deer, black bear, bald eagles, pine martens and an occasional moose to name a few. The acreage is entirely wooded. Away from the river the forest consists mostly of hard maple and hemlock that has been selectively logged in the past providing a periodic income source.
