Michael Murphy came to real estate by way of broadcast news, the car business and years of designing and renovating homes across the United States and the Caribbean.
Originally from New Orleans, he earned a communications degree from Queens College (now Queens University of Charlotte), where he serves as a Trustee Emeritus. He spent four years at NBC NewsChannel and later ran car dealerships, all while following the design eye he inherited from his mother, an award-winning interior designer. He and his husband, Brent, moved to Charlotte in 2019. Michael holds the ABR, CLHMS and CIPS designations, is licensed in North and South Carolina, serves on the Canopy MLS Advisory Group and is a past chair of Canopy Leadership Academy. At home, he cooks often, especially South Louisiana staples.
Michael’s years designing, renovating and building homes give him a rare advantage: he can walk into a space and see what it could become. He helps buyers look past dated finishes and awkward layouts to a home’s real potential, and he gives them a realistic sense of what it would take to get there. For sellers, that same eye shapes how a home is prepared and presented, so its best qualities lead. He also brings a calm, steady presence to what can be a stressful process. When negotiations tighten or inspections turn up surprises, Michael puts the issue in perspective, keeps the conversation productive and helps everyone find a way forward.
