Cessna’s insider’s knowledge and extensive background of working with clients both purchasing and selling homes began in 1999 at Pacific Union Residential Brokerage, she quickly gained distinction as one of Napa County’s youngest brokers at the age of 31. Another career milestone includes six years as Owner/Managing Broker of Up Valley Real Estate in Saint Helena where Cessna managed 10 agents and all their transactions. Deciding to focus on raising her son, Cessna merged Up Valley Real Estate with Sotheby’s International Realty in 2010. When the timing was right, Cessna rejoined Pacific Union International which is now Compass.
Ask Cessna Barrett: Family Living Her Style
What are families looking for in the Napa Valley during these uncertain and challenging times?
I am finding people’s needs and desires have changed due to the pandemic and now wanting a One-Stop-Home. For example, swimming pools have become a priority, when in the past they were often not requested. Buyers’ demand has increased for sizable outdoor areas and yards for family activities because they want to enjoy their lives at home and not have to travel.
How do you specialize in assisting families to find their forever Napa Valley home?
Families are my niche. I understand their specific fears and desires as I have experienced them raising my own family. Parents want to know what communities are best suited for themselves and for their children, what amenities are available, and how easily they can become part of a community. I work to discern the kind of home they want based on my experience from growing up here to becoming a mother to three young children; I get being a child and I get being a parent in the Napa Valley. Lastly, I assist in uniting them with their ultimate property as soon as possible. Today families are expressing the urgency to move here right away and I understand the process to meet this goal.
Describe family living today in the Napa Valley compared to when you grew up in St. Helena?
It continues to remain a very quiet and close-knit community. Everyone looks out for each other as they did when I was growing up. People are accepting and welcoming to new families. I see close relationships develop quickly as more young families are moving here from out of the area. Living here is about outdoor activities where you continually see the same people at the annual Pet Parade, Farmers Markets, youth sports, holiday events and not just at the towns’ parks and playgrounds but at the National and State Parks too which we are fortunate to have here. Because of this it is easy to feel like a local and that you truly belong here.
What are your family’s favorite activities?
We love bike riding, going to all the (secret) parks in Yountville, and hiking the beautiful trails in unique parks and forests around the Valley. We love being outdoors year-round just as I did growing up here and because of the fabulous weather.
