About Donald
Don Batten, a seasoned real estate agent, brings a unique blend of experience and expertise to Compass where he will work as a key part of The Mathew J Arruda Group.
He is a veteran of the US Army National Guard as a Medic, and a graduate of the New England Institute of Technology.
Growing up around real estate investors, and developers, Don always had a keen interest in the industry. His prior experience included building relationships in automotive sales and service where he contributed to the dealer winning multiple JD Power and Infiniti Awards of Excellence in customer service. Hertz Car Sales repeatedly ranked him as a regional leader in Sales Volume, at one point reaching #1 in the country.
Curious about finance he joined the Home Equity Loan team at Citizens Bank. This experience exposed him to lending criteria, underwriting, and various types of mortgage products. Later, Don was recruited to the retention department, where he honed his negotiation skills by empowering clients to secure better rates rather than payoff, or refinance their loans with a competitor.
Progressing to real estate in 2003, Don worked closely with a seasoned colleague who was very creative in brokering deals especially when it came to commercial investments. Together they represented clients in the lease, sale, or purchase of commercial property, restaurant sales, commercial residential, and condo conversions. Tenacity, negotiating, structuring creative deals, and overcoming objections, were among his biggest takeaways.
Now Don looks forward to working alongside top producer Mathew J Arruda assisting buyers and sellers across the South Coast and Rhode Island.
