About Michael

Consistently a top producing and record setting broker, Michael has sold more than one billion dollars of real estate in less than eight years. He holds the distinction of closing the thirteenth highest priced sale nationwide. Michael is ranked 7th nationwide by the Wall Street Journal for average transaction price and 92nd nationwide for total sales volume. He was featured in the Real Deal's Rising Real Estate Stars under 35.

Guitarist/composer and Minnesota native Michael Graves burst onto the real estate scene in 2009, shattering price per-square-foot records in luxury buildings citywide. Within two years, he had recorded over $100 million in single-unit resale transactions. Consistently ahead of the curve, Michael specializes in the positioning and marketing of luxury new development and resale. He has broken price per square foot records in Tribeca, West Village, Chelsea, Flatiron, Gramercy Park and beyond. He has sold Penthouses on Central Park West, Park Avenue and in nearly every sought-after enclave in Manhattan as well as full floor units in key developments such as One57.

While marketing property, Michael has achieved top price per-square-foot on more than 80% of his transactions. Media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Real Deal seek out and feature Michael for his extensive market knowledge and record-breaking transactions. Michael credits his razor-sharp marketing and delicate negotiating skills to a lifetime of experience in academics, hospitality, and the fine arts. Previously he served as Sales and Marketing Director for his family's luxury hotel development company, Graves Hospitality, which received top accolades during his tenure such as Travel & Leisure's "World's Best Hotels," ESNY Lumen Award, and "Gold Reserve of Top Hotels" by Conde Nast Traveler.

Michael graduated with highest honors from NYU where he received Masters Degree's in Composition & Theory and Scoring for Film. His music has been heard round the world and has been performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to rave reviews. Michael is the recipient of the American Music Center's CAP Award, NYU's Honor Scholar Award and The Founder's Day Award. In his free time Michael enjoys playing guitar, writing music and traveling internationally with his family.

“It's clear why he has the reputation he has with his clients and within the agent community. I am incredibly excited for Michael to join the Compass family and to build the future of our industry together.” - Robert Reffkin, Compass CEO

“Michael has represented my husband and me not only in the sale and listing of one apartment, but also in the negotiation and purchase of a subsequent apartment in New York. In each instance Michael exhibited superior effort and consummate professionalism. He was innovative in our listing and showings and he provided great counsel and due diligence in negotiation and purchase of our new apartment. Michael is a dedicated professional and exhibits the highest degree of competence, integrity, humility and grace. He has an easy charm, a splendid wit and a casual confidence that separates himself from others in the insensely competitive world of New York City real estate. In summary, Michael was a delight to work with and I am a most enthusiastic referee of Michael Graves for any and all brokerage needs.” - Sharen Turney, CEO of Victoria’s Secret

“When it comes to negotiating a deal he’s beyond comparison. He’s without a doubt the best broker I’ve dealt with ever." - Elliot Joseph, Principal Partner of Property Markets Group & Developer of Walker Tower

“Michael is one of the most productive and accomplished brokers that I know. Michael sold my apartment for sixteen million dollars in an off-market deal for a record price in a period of one week. He represented both sides of the transaction and was part of the process every step of the way. Michael’s calm and professional demeanor was an important resource for all parties and he deserves your full consideration for any residential real estate assignment you might be considering." - Adam Rose, CEO of Rose Associates
