"As first time home buyers, my wife and I entered the market clueless and overwhelmed. Before we seriously began our search, we pulled up to an open house run by Susan Bixby on the hottest day of the summer of 2018. Susan had just closed for the day after closing accepting an offer for the townhouse we had come to see, but she came out to our car to talk to us about all of the initial steps we should take to get started with the home buying process. It was +100° in the sun while we sat in our car’s AC, and she had just worked an entire day of the open house, yet she spent 20 minutes answering all of our questions while fanning her face occasionally with one of the “open house” signs. She wasn’t the first agent we had talked to, but she was the most knowledgeable and forthcoming. From our initial meeting, we also knew she would be a dedicated agent once we were ready, and we kept in contact with her over the couple of months it took to start searching in January of 2019.
Susan became our best friend as we spent each Saturday morning for nearly 6 months viewing houses. It’s a very competitive townhouse market in northern Virginia, and Susan made sure we the first to view promising properties and that we were able to compete properly for them by submitting contracts in record time. Not once did she pressure us to purchase any properties we viewed; however, after our first contract was not accepted, we wanted to immediately jump on another townhouse that we thought wanted to settle for. Like a best friend after a breakup, she reminded us that we needed to take it slow and not jump into anything we weren’t 100% sold on. She was absolutely right—we spent a day mulling it over and realized the townhouse was too small for us and was overpriced.
When we switched our search to focus on single family houses—at that point veterans of the bidding process—we found our dream house almost immediately. Susan was on top of the purchase process once our contract was accepted. All realtors have “a guy” (or girl) for everything required, but Susan went beyond her normal suggestions to find a good home inspector to recommend who knew our neighborhood and our particular HVAC setup. She also recommended a great lender who helped us through the mortgage process, and kept constant communication with him on our behalf—which is a much bigger asset than we imagined during the spring season, when one has stressful deadlines to meet for passing large amounts of money...
Closing went about as smoothly as closing could go, and we ended up with our dream house with a good rate after a longer than normal closing. If Susan had not been as focused and patient with us as she was, I wouldn’t be typing this at a desk in my very own office of my own house, looking at my very own lawn out the window.
It’s a tough market out there, especially for first time home buyers, but Susan will put in as much effort as you are willing to allow her to finding your dream house. My wife and I can whole heartedly recommend Susan Bixby to any individual who needs a dedicated buyer’s agent willing to fight through the thick of it with them." - Matt
