New tree plantings since construction of the home include, red oak, red maple, chinkapin oak, beech, black gum and yellowwood, among lesser species. The 5000+ sf. main house and elevated east and west wings were framed and enclosed by master carpenter David Hartig and first mate Bill Clifton. The building plan places emphasis on the family dining table and the provision for maximum flexibility and durability. A three car garage with overhead bonus room connects to the house along an open breezeway to complete the cluster. Inside, 1700 sf. of red and white oak, shellbark hickory, and hard rock maple comprise floors which lie beneath a 33’ open gable supported by mortise and tenon beams of tulip poplar....the state tree of Indiana. A great room, containing kitchen, dining and living spaces, measures 62’ x 26’ end to end. Large multi-pane windows open the east and south walls to wooded areas beyond. Two elevated 45’ wings containing 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths between them provide cool functional sleeping quarters. A 25’ x 24’ multipurpose loft overlooks the great room. Beneath the great room, lies a 48’ by 25 ‘ multipurpose open space with walkout ingress/egress. Pine Grove, the original "21st Century Agrarian Modern" home, was built for family, friends, events and imaginative spaces that accommodate them.
