Penny House records indicate that the initial section was built in 1749 -decades before the American Declaration of Independence! Another section was added later, as is shown by an 18-inch-thick interior wall, which divides the structure. Overall, the house features 3 colonial-style fireplaces, deep window sills, wide floorboards, and beaded beams. Original “wavy” glass is also still seen in many of the windows throughout. The first floor features a large living room, or parlor, which features a huge walk-in fireplace. This main floor also includes a very cozy Tongue and Groove pine-paneled den, a dining room with a Gas log stone fireplace, and a modern kitchen. A straight staircase, along with a second, winding staircase, unites the first and second floors. The second floor has a large main bedroom and 2 additional bedrooms. The full bathroom is well appointed and tiled. Beautifully exposed hand-hewn rafters, joined using wooden pegs, known as thole pins, are featured on the ceiling of the primary bedroom along with random width Cherry wood floors are some of the evidence of the quality of 18th-century craftsmanship. The "main fireplace" in the living room begs for a cozy winter fire. The basement fireplace is no longer usable but stands as a testament of colonial times technology.
