Classic 1920s Brooklyn home with huge Hamptons-style beachfront backyard? Check!
This home has been lovingly restored with careful attention to blending the best of the gilded age with the best of today’s modern amenities and luxury conveniences. The formal entry hall welcomes you with radiant heated marble floors, an over-sized walk-in closet, and original stained-glass window.
Through period double doors, the foyer opens to the sun-drenched living room where front-row views of the ocean’s sparkling waters are enhanced by stately proportions and architectural features, including an exquisitely carved Carrera marble fireplace. The living room’s Brazilian cherry floors flow into the open kitchen where only the finest natural materials have been included, such as a live-edge walnut island, statuario marble walls, and a raw copper hood. This stunning kitchen is almost twice the size of comparable homes, and has almost twice the amenities: double SubZeros, double Wolf ovens, two sinks, two D/W, two mini-fridges, warming drawer, microwave drawer, 6-burner Wolf cooktop, walk-in pantry, etc., which make entertaining large gatherings a breeze. But it is all a prelude to the main event: ocean views that are perfectly framed by antique French doors leading into your large sunroom, where you slide open patio doors and enter your backyard oasis for unparalleled ease of indoor/outdoor entertaining, all with no stairs to navigate.
Upstairs, the second and third floors contain six generously proportioned bedrooms and three full baths (with rough-in for possible future dual en suites overlooking the ocean). A seventh room has been re-imagined into an office/library with sweeping ocean views, a raised ceiling with exposed 10-ft high rafters, and closets relocated to behind-the-wall built-in bookcases.
Throughout the home, great care was taken to repurpose and restore original features where possible. Pairs of crystal sconces, oak parquet flooring, a clawfoot tub, and other elements of a bygone era once again shine with their original beauty, merging seamlessly with today’s modern aesthetic.
Outside, the level backyard features an expansive patio with picture-perfect views of the ocean, anchored by a 50-ft classic balustrade stretching the length of your bulkhead-the ideal spot for drinks, elbows, and photos with family and friends. Wooden steps lead you down into the sand dunes and the ocean beyond. Around front, the garden features a fully landscaped lawn with sprinkler system.
Enjoy the 3-D tour and video walk-through. Amenities and Upgrade lists available.
What I Love About This Home: (From the owners)
We’ve renovated and lived in historic homes across Brooklyn for the past dozen years. A Park Slope townhouse, a Queen Anne in Ditmas Park, and after an extensive search, this beautiful oceanfront Mediterranean in the Coney Island community of Sea Gate.
Calling this beachfront house our home these past six years has given us priceless memories that we never could have created anywhere else in Brooklyn. Year-round walks on the beach with the kids, wine and cheese with friends outside while listening to the waves at night, countless celebrations and parties, it has been a dream house. The location right off the Belt Pkwy made our commute to nearby schools in Dyker Heights/Bay Ridge much easier. And when the time came for my oldest to start sixth grade we were thrilled be walking distance to Mark Twain, the zoned middle school for Sea Gate that is the gifted and talented school in Brooklyn.
Of all the great Brooklyn neighborhoods we’ve lived in, Coney Island has become our favorite. Our kids took swimming at the YMCA, ice skating at Abe Stark, and attended summer camp at the New York Aquarium. We enjoyed Cyclones baseball games and fireworks, saw concerts at the open-air amphitheater (including the Beach Boys), and taught our girls how to ride their bikes in the car-free safety of the boardwalk. The great lifestyle is enhanced with high-end gyms and abundant casual and fine dining options. I know you will be as happy to call this special place home as we were!
